roza terenzi is the latest convert to the kalahari oyster cult, the australian producer debuts with four tracks showcasing her unique sound. influences come from far and wide, shifting between electro, house, techno and even early rave anthems. the space bleeps of -gigi- are soon interrupted by shouldering kick drums. samples stagger and stumble before key stabs cut through beats in this hazy piece of early morning elation. -mwah- maintains those euphoric moods. snapping snares slice through shimmering synthwork and soaring strings to keep the night grooving. darker tones enter with -rare high-, but these shades are soon brightened by arcing notes. acid lines squeak and squirm in this balancing act of disparate colours and chords. distant lands and exotic encounters are conjured for -soft-, perfumed percussion and meandering melodies mingle and merge for head swimming close of aromatic audio.

andrzej nowak is a polish early computer music composer who never found proper place in official contemporary music world. tracks produced between 1987 and 1994 as a score for never screened animation movies (the producer didn’t like them). lines of simple sounds, interrupted by primitive electronic trumpet and other fake instruments. are you sure it’s a film score? what was the thing that producer didn’t like? weird harmonies or too much rhythm?

caldera‘s *journey* reveals something unexpected through its driving beat, as shuffling rhythms scuttle around the uncompromisingly tough kick drum, only to be interrupted by organic sample constructions. *valuable* doesn‘t hide behind the opener: pitched-down vocal samples develop through foggy walls of delay. underneath it all, a churning beat grows, captivating the listener. it drifts slowly, always a little behind and stretching endlessly.

with his third release of the bella avgvsta series, daniel bortz shows that augsburg offers more then its famous puppet theater. the opener don’t forget your sword provides crystal clear techno, discreetly interrupted by accented fades of an exotic theme. with rolling dub sequences, decent recurring swishes and a peacefull breaks jump in the water describes the impression to dive into the humid element. lonely soldier then provides more power again. the basic theme which is dominated by a minor tone displays an inner unrest created by the unknown that is daily lurking out there for us. the beautiful deep dub-track hide from the sun finally plays with the change of shimmering heat and chilly shadow. who does not know the feeling on a hot open-air-afternoon to take an occasional time-out from the merciless burning sun. overall this is the most personal and deeply emotional release and as we think a worthy highlight and conclusion for the bella avgvsta series.

altered moods recordings releases its next vinyl ep octaves of energy. this threetracker by crawley, uk-based artist mick welch is a smooth, sultry adventure into the core ethos of amr music. mick is no stranger to the deep house sound. starting in 2002, he has built a strong following of fans in the uk, first with his elektrosouls mix site and shortly after that with his label of the same name. the -octaves of energy- release represents his latest foray into the deepness. -conscious field- kicks things off with a tambourine- and high-hat infused beat with rich, dark leads burbling up throughout, interrupted now and then by a wistful bridge with an echoing voice telling you not to be afraid. -mind force- is another laid back jam, with a bright, crisp cowbell intertwine with an accouterment of lush pads and silky leads. the final track on the flip side, octave 50, is the deepest cut of the three and also the easiest to work the dance floor with. with its sinewy, filtered pad and bubbly bass line combined with warm, warbling leads, it fits both in the studio and at the club.

midgar is proud to introduce a newcomer for the third release. a great debut for the maltese cloned, delivering not less than 4 cuts with sapphire 1990 e.p. the record, way more straightforward and groove centered than the previous midgar outputs, opens with sapphire 1990, track that sounds like very nostalgic memories from a timeless rave. thanks to a genuine simplicity and the great arrangement of its elements, this first cut has the perfect characteristics to become a dancefloor anthem. on the same side, a live out-take from cloned’s repertory, the pendulum swinging synth-lines which dominate pretty direct rhythmics filled with hi-hats and claps over a costant background noise. belgassem as the first cut on the b side, is an absolutely heavy one for the label’s standards, made of deep kickin’ drums and haunting voices empowered by a really strong and obsessive acid-line. closing the vinyl, the slow (and again really acidic) submerging is like a lysergic vessel headed to more comfortable dimensions, where groovy drums are embraced by very bright heavenly pads. sudden death is instead a chilled-out broken beat interrupted by confused speeches and detroitish pads, resulting as a modern ritual of ascension towards higher spheres. corel drives the release to the end, recalling most of its main features: a restless run through misty soundscapes along a path studded of bells and overwhelming, sharp hi-hats.

a 4-track package traversing house and techno. first up jour de fete, a reference to the black and white 1940s french comedy – perhaps a clue to mr georget… one things for sure this is toe-tapping house. taking its time to perfectly build up the progression towards smooth outbursts of wailing sirens. 6eme etape is another fine example of get-up-and-dance house, theres plenty of driving drum kick and jazzy key chords, nicely pulled back and interrupted, to drop back in again with a renewed energy. poil de renard on the other hand immediately marks out its territory among the german minimal and micro house space. strong, syncopated beats laced with chopped up whispers and unknown reverberations, this is tough! the 103 mix softens up the edges, a subtle underlying synth providing the mellowness – essentially your morning-after dub version.

stroboscopic artefacts is proud to welcome on board singapore-based xhin (meerestief). with his production wizardry he has been crafting ominous cuts of cutting-edge techno.>fixing the error< is an enormous peak-time club killer. xhin knits together the sinister sound of the revolt of the machines. high frequency drum machines and ferrous sub-bass synthesizers are working urgently against the clock. close your eyes, dissolve, step into dystopia. you are transported into a post-human cityscape where strobes reflect off smelting metallic sounds and deafening alarms wail. these warning codes, layer upon layer, fashion a vision of a metropolis gorging itself on sprawling noises. the flip side, >link< has no narrative. instead, this deep, brooding slice of dub-techno is composed of pure atmospheric pressure. the undercarrige slithers and slinks, interrupted by crackles of lightening and prehistoric rumbles. the result is a construction created in a cold palate of pyrite grey: bubbling, spherical and terrifying. this is dark. this is urgent. this is xhin.

the first single from her upcoming wagon repair debut album and her first release of 2009, dinky (aka alejandra iglesias) is ably following up on the momentum gathered from her 2008 album may be later on vakant. in a decade of releases on labels from cocoon and traum to carpark and crosstown rebels, dinky continues to cement her place amongst technos most enterprising producers with four new tracks. opener wind mesmerizes with repetitive keys looped over a straight kick. chirped tones pulse curiously amidst descending melodic chimes in a steadily evolving elemental journey that equally evokes reich and contemporaries (and new label mates) cobblestone jazz. outro establishes territory with intoxicating arpeggio melodies, while wet hair plunges us into submarine depths. dripping with resonance and reverb, sporadic metallic tones color a dense mix of murky pads and sharp beats. interrupted briefly by an epic symphonic interlude, wet hair continues its descent into deep and dark territories to close. the eps closer, butterfly floats with squeaked melodic tones and breathy vocals taking lead over a busy percussive base. saturated with a variety of sounds from indigenous samples to wobbly bass and deep detuned keys, butterfly takes us on a winding scenic route, disorienting and enchanting in equal measure.

the debut record of ritmolider kaleidoscope is a traditional studio work with live performance and classic analog sound. being in the era of nu disco and re edits the author has tried to find his own way of making music based on traditional methods of performance. and hes got a beautiful symbiosis of instrumental improvisations and electronic melodiousness. at the begining of the record theres a superb remix by the beat broker - deep, groovy synth disco, highly recomended for dancefloor! the second track is a journey into obscure psychedelic funk with lots of improvisations and atmospheric tunes....a pity so sweet percussions are added so late. b2 tonight at the discotheque will carry you away by the real soviet disco vibe. a beautiful arp solo softly flowing through amazing effects and acoustic drums focused on free played funky basslines. the original version of kaleidoscope is also a very interesting one. a mood of this composition is changed all the time. the first seconds of the track you hear a tender melodic solo which makes you feel calm and relaxed, then you get the groove coming from an agressive arpeggio and dinamic percussion. soon this feeling gets interrupted with a sudden slap bass impromtu playing together with a synthy accompaniment, and it turns into another feeling, and so on... this really reminds of kaleidoscope effect!

once again featuring long-term toddla collaborator serocee, >>soundtape killin<< comes on like a bashment anthem for the electro age. undoubtedly a dance floor smash serocees cut and spliced vocals get down with a dirty electro beat which is intermittently interrupted by pulsating synths. remixes come courtesy of hotly tipped newcomers detboi and nastee boi. following on from a number of painfully limited 12inch – most notably on herves new cheep thrills imprint – irish sensation detboi delivers a rarefied electro banger of a remix. on the back of this, garage rude boy and t2 comrade nastee boi, drops a bassline infused version that is equally infectious.

>compulsive behaviour< reflects linus addiction to whisky and those bad habits, which derive out of that. it s a peak time b-line stomper with very true lyrics by mr. l himself added by nicely made soundscapes and emphasising synths. >hypnotizm< is exactly what the title implies: 6 minutes of a minimal synth groove, interrupted by awesome little breaks, where the hypnotism gets a good dose of dopeness - again with lyrics by the man him self! the borderline ep reflects a weekend of a dj and those mondays/tuesdays afterwards with that question: >where, how much and why?<

this compilation spanning a period of 37 years features burnt friedmanÕs releases and edits thereof from vinyl-only labels (latency (fr), marionette (ca), dekmantel (nl) amongst others) plus 4 hitherto unreleased tracks, making them available on digital formats. friedmanÕs music from 1980 to 2017 covers a broad spectrum of played and programmed rhythmic styles that traverse not only club music from techno, electro and dub, but, above all, trace friedmanÕs own artistic development. a trajectory that owes a lot to his long-standing collaboration with can drummer jaki liebezeit, who died at the age of 79 in 2017. like liebezeit, friedman already explored even and uneven rhythms back in the late 1980s. this selection of 17 tracks documents this pursuit while bringing rough or discarded tracks to light, which did not fit onto any album or were intended for the nonplace label. the compilation runs the entire gamut of his work on percussion, keyboard, samplers and toys of all kinds using various production methods (tape, atari, midi, sampler, hard disk recording, digital audio tape). studio work (instant-composition, programming and recording) underwent major technological changes and revolutions in the 1980s and 1990s, but friedmanÕs distinctive signature style prevails throughout. surprisingly danceable tracks, interrupted by alien atmospheric periods, defy any genre.
